Carrara
is centrally located on the Gold Coast,
south of the Nerang River and is
surrounded by Nerang and Ashmore. The
area is in close proximity to the M1 and
about eight kilometres from Surfers
Paradise. It would not be wrong to say
that Carrara is identified as a golfer's
paradise, as it is characterised by five
golf courses that are considered a major
drawcard to the area. There are another
10 golf courses within 8km of Carrara.
Carrara Stadium once home to the "Gold
Coast Chargers" is still used widely for
various events, such as the AFL game
between Melbourne and Adelaide on the
16th of April. There are also various
social clubs that are located in
Carrara; they include the Croatian
Sports Club and the German Club. The area has the Carrara Markets (the
largest on the Gold Coast), that sells
everything from garden products,
clothes, fresh produce, tiles and of
course trinkets. The markets give good
value to shoppers everywhere and
especially the bargain hunters. They are
open on Saturdays and Sundays.
Public transport exists nearby at the
Nerang terminal only a couple of
kilometres away. The terminal serves as
a major transit centre, with rail link
and bus services departing frequently.
The central location of Carrara to the
freeway and beaches has made it
attractive to home buyers and increased
demand accordingly. The area caters for a diverse style of
dwellings from houses, townhouse, units
and other developments. Carrara's'
location in the middle of a major
floodplain has seen developments
concentrated on the hilly rises, thus
allowing views to the coast.
One of the recent developments in the
area is Emerald Lakes, a master-planned
community that includes a 37-hectare
lake. On conclusion, the development is
expected to have 1400 homes, a shopping
precinct in a village atmosphere, a
hotel, walking tracks and recreational
facilities. The Cove was the first to be released
and includes single and double storey
dwellings, duplexes and courtyard homes.
The next stage to follow is The Vistas
which will overlook the privately owned
Emerald Lakes Golf Course. The standard
of home will range from freestanding and
courtyard homes, and duplexes. After The
Vistas, the next release will be The
Island that is focused around the lake,
as there is expected to be 57 lots
surrounding the lake.
Boonooroo Park is an established leafy
area located in the suburb of Carrara.
The area is characterised by larger
blocks of land that offer an
environmentally friendly lifestyle. In
Boonooroo Park the homes are generally
about 15 years old. There are two private schools, being
Emmanuel College and St Michael's
College, that are situated in the
Carrara area. There are a number of
schools in surrounding suburbs,
including public and private secondary
schools and the Gold Coast Institute of
TAFE Ashmore campus.
